Why You Need To Do Gratitude Journaling
“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.” — Zig Ziglar
I once had a great teacher, who not only taught me economics but also a great way of living life. She is the kind of person that whenever you think about makes you smile.
In one session she encouraged us to start a gratitude journal, claiming that it will help us in clearing our acne, all we had to do was make a list of 10 things, we were grateful for that day.
It was a weird claim but this idea sounded a lot cheaper than all those products for perfect skin, so I gave it a try, as I had nothing to lose in this challenge.
Gratitude journal changed my life, it made me a better person, and after 5 years I still write in my journal, more now than ever before.
We are all stressed for our health and our family’s safety, we are more uncertain about the future than we ever have been, we don’t know what is going to happen.
When this pandemic will go away?
What will our new normal be?
Reality is scary for everyone. Surviving in these times are difficult for everyone, as most of us are alone and vulnerable. The majority of people are feeling this way, that is why it is most important to take care of our mental health.
And one way to do this is by starting a gratitude journal.
Gratitude simply means having an appreciation for everything you have in life. May it be physical possessions or emotional connections.
Expressing gratitude is a powerful activity, that leaves you feeling positive and content. Studies have proven that a person who practices gratitude regularly is happier and healthier.
Gratitude transforms you into a positive person. It helps you find the good in the worst situations.
Gratitude is also the X-Factor for the law of attraction, when you express your gratitude for something that you are trying to manifest it signals the universe that it already belongs to you and ultimately the universe gives you that thing sooner than later.
Here are some simple tips to get you started in your journey
Choose A Journal
You have to choose between a notebook or any note-taking app, I prefer Journey, it is a great app, with easy syncing.
Pick A Specific Time
You can write at any time that suits you, may it in the morning or evening but you have to stick to it as this will help you in forming a habit of writing this journal daily.
Start Easy
In the beginning, all you have to do is make a list of all the things and people you are grateful for it could be anything, it is a very easy task and will take you less than 10 minutes to finish.
Pick Up A Topic
After your initial listicles, now its time to pick a specific person or thing every day. You have to describe them/it and write 5 reasons on why you are thankful for them/it. It can be anyone from your best friend to your neighbor or anything may it be your mobile phone, laptop, or house.
Find Your Style
Try a few methods of journaling, and Over some time, you will develop your style of writing, it will come naturally to you, and then this will become an easy task for you.
Expressing gratitude is an extremely healthy habit, it not only enhances your personality but also has a lasting effect on your brain and can improve mental health over time.
We spend so much time focusing on the things that we don’t have, that we seldom forget to be thankful for what we have and what we do, we forget about people who make our life better and support us in all our adventures.
It is time to be a little more grateful for all the amazing people in our life as everyone is not as lucky as us and if there is one thing we have learned in the past few months is that life is short and anything can happen at any given moment.
So pick up your journal and start writing.
