Suicide: The Ultimate Escape
The person who completes suicide dies once. Those left behind die a thousand death, trying to relive those terrible moments and understand…why?-Clark
Recently I heard the news of 21 years old boy hanging himself in the bathroom, who happened to be my sister’s best friend’s neighbor.
He was in a good college, his family was extremely well off, he was close-knit with his family, he was good looking and had caring friends.
One would say he had everything that anyone could hope for, then Why did he commit suicide? Why was dying easier for him than living?
It was because of a girl, he took his life because he fought with his girlfriend.
And after he had hanged himself, his girlfriend texted him saying that they should solve the issue and she will talk to him tomorrow, little did she know
No one was ready to believe that he committed suicide, he was a joyful, extroverted person, someone who was everyone’s friend.
If only he had waited a few more minutes, he might have gotten the text.
But was that text worth more than his life?
According to the details, he was mentally fit and had no mental illness in the past, yet something as common as a fight with his girlfriend triggered him into taking his own life.
This is what is unbelievable, his close friend was on the call with him, trying to persuade him from doing anything drastic, even he didn’t think of informing the family sooner as the fight seemed so common, he didn’t think that anyone would do something so extreme because of it.
Now I didn’t know the guy, yet I can’t get this story off my mind, my mind has wandered to it so many times in the past few days, I constantly ask my sister if there is any new discovery because it just seems so unbelievable.
You never know what someone is going through, what they are thinking. You cannot guess someone’s action in a certain situation.
Someone might seem happy on their social media post, they might have a big bungalow, an imported car, great friends, and supporting family. they could have it all but that does not mean they are happy. they can put on a brave face for their family and friends and act all jovial or carefree. But you can’t tell what’s in their heart, how they are feeling if they are actually fine.
Suicide: one person dies every 40 seconds in this world, more than 1000 people lose their lives daily due to suicide.
This year has been hard so far, the lockdown has taken a toll on so many people’s mental health. So reach out to a friend or a family member and just listen to them talk, sometimes people just need someone to listen to them and tell them how important they are to you.
And if someone is depressed, encourage them to get in touch with a counselor so that they can get better.
Reach out to people who are bipolar or have PTSD or are suffering from anxiety, they can probably use an ear right now.
All we can do for someone with suicidal thoughts is listen to them, try to understand their pain and struggle.
This world is not an easy place to live in, so go call a friend and make it a bit easier for them.
